Buying a camper is a big decision, so here are 7 questions to ask when buying a hybrid caravan. Maybe you’ve been looking online and are planning on going to a local camping show, or you’ve just been to one and are overwhelmed with all the options.
We’ve put together this guide on how to cut through the noise, and make sure that you’ll be making the right choice on a hybrid caravan that not only suits your lifestyle, but will last for many adventures to come.
1. Will you show me how to set it all up and pack it down?
A company who doesn’t take the time to run you through your new camper could ruin your holiday experience. Imagine buying your new hybrid caravan, turning up at the campsite and not knowing how to set up your awning, kitchen or bunks!
At Jawa, we always make sure you know your camper inside and out and can work all the moving parts, we spend over 2 hours taking you through your caravan at hand over. And we’ve always happy to answer follow up questions if you’ve forgotten something.
2. Is the chasis one solid piece?
When buying an offroad camper you need it to be tough and built to stand up to a beating. If a chassis is welded it can create weak spots that can snap, wear or cause accidents after some normal wear and tear.
Therefore, we build our trailers from a completely solid frame, with no welding or joins.
3. What is included in the price?
Price comparisons between different hybrid caravans can be confusing, especially since not every company will include the same things in the final cost. So while other models may seem less expensive, once you add on things like rock sliders, water tanks and batteries, the price blows out.
Our prices include everything you’ll need to get out on the road, with only some more luxury optional extras, so that you aren’t in for a nasty surprise when you see the final invoice.
4. What is the warranty?
Not all of us are able to go off the beaten track as often as we’d like. Which means that it could only be your second trip out when something goes wrong with your hybrid. A long warranty shows that the manufacturer has a strong belief in the product.
So, we’ve made sure our warranty will cover you for as many trips as possible, with a 5 year structural warranty, and a 12 month warranty on the fit out, we’re always willing to help when something goes wrong.
5. What is your experience?
You wouldn’t buy a car from someone who never drives, and a hybrid caravan is no different. Talking to someone with personal experience means that they can give you all the
Our staff are all avid explorers and our director John has 35 years of mechanical experience, so he knows quality craftsmanship when he sees it.
6. Where is the fitout done?
It’s very common for companies these days to import their caravans from overseas manufacturers. However, the standard of wiring and electrical fitout from these countries can be sub-par. With new Australian Standards being put in place for the camper and caravan industry, you need to make sure that your hybrid caravan measures up.
All our camper trailers and hybrid caravans have been getting their fitouts completed in Australia, but local workers since our company started.
7. Is there any timber used in the build?
Timber can swell and warp when exposed to water, while off roading, if the shell of your hybrid caravan isn’t fully sealed, water can splash up from underneath and the timber used in the internal construction can get damaged.
At Jawa, we don’t use any timber in the construction of our camper trailers or hybrid caravans. So you can be confident that your hybrid will be kept in working order for many years to come.
