Choosing an Off Road Camper
Setting off on an adventure is exciting, but you need to make sure you have the right set up or you could find things get uncomfortable quickly.
- We highly recommend a hard floor when it comes to an off road camper. Hard flooring is much better and makes for a quicker set up, especially if you’re only stopping for one night and you don’t need to peg it down if you’re not using the awning.
- A solid chassis is a must for all off-road driving, so it doesn’t break or crack.
- Check your tow capacity – make sure your car is capable of towing a camper.
- Make sure your car is set up to tow by including a recovery kit, electric brakes, Anderson plug etc.

Quality Camper Trailers
A good trailer will have a solid dipped galvanised drawbar. Other things to keep in mind include:
- Must be fully welded.
- Thickness of the canvas (Jawa use minimum of 16Oz canvas on all annexe walls etc. Some competitors only use 9Oz-12Oz thickness. This can cause the walls to flap around, create a lot more noise, the heat gets in, water can seep in and it’s more susceptible to mould).
- Good detail and finishes – look in all crevices. Is the silicon neat? Are the welds complete welds? This will help you assess the overall quality.
